About the band:
Tattered Soul is a German black metal band formed in 2007. Until the end of 2010 their music was influenced by a slow Black/Death Metal. At the same time their drummer and guitarist left the band, but after a short period the line-up was completed again with two new gituarists and a new drummer. Together they developed their musical style into Thrash influenced Black Metal.
Review:
The first note was played and what came to my mind? "Mayhem"
yes the band Mayhem because of the awesome riffs and intense drumming.
"Necromancer" is definitely a good choice for the intro song.
The next song "The Art Of Death" is taking the dark and angry atmosphere
to a new level, mostly the riff that starts somewhere around the first minute it's so pure, dark and chatcy that it gave chils down my spine. "As Ravens Call" seems like a mixture of previously mentioned Mayhem & Immortal. Don't get me wrong Tattered Soul doesn't sound like they're copying other bands but neither then less You can clearly hear the influences. The only think I'd like to be a bit different would be the vocals. I mean they're good but I miss the sounds of insanity a bit, but hey that's just my opinion.
Anyway, if You like catchy & well played black metal this is something for You.

About the band:
The band was founded in autumn 2006 by Grimnyr, Inferius, Hel and Garm, after the death/black metal band Impurity has been dissolved. 2007 Record of an unpublished demo and first performances with Archgoat, Black Witchery and Marduk. 2008 after Garm and Hel left Varulv, the band got two new members, Svart, Ex-Hellsaw and Ex-Sanguis drummer, and Ulthar, rythm-guitar.
Review:
The scream.
At the beginning of "Herbststurm" is a great intro to Varulv-s part of the split album.
What to say, the song is very raw, the drumming minimalistic & and the bass
ohh.. the bass You can actually hear it. That's a very important fact because the
bass adds a kind of deepness into this hateful & raw creation. "Eternal Darkness"
to be honest this song didn't gave me something it sounded pretty much like a
Burzum song but without the dangerous feeling You get while listening to Burzum.
And then we have "Opfer" it starts with a very nice melodie and exactly when I thought
that I'll hear something different it became the million times heard black metal cliche.
I'm not very impressed by Varulv although they have some nice moments.
If You're interested in raw black metal take a listen.

Review:
"A Tomb So Cold" thrashy riffs, Horde like vocals, good composition, and a pretty nice atmosphere.
The next song "Into The Ancient Forest" starts with a very fast & hypnotic riff followed by great blasts.
The drums are a strong part of Nightforest-s song because they give a great accent to the atmospheric riffs.
The vocals are heavy and understandable which adds a nice touch. Nightforest is closing the album with a very epic, evil and hate filled song "Saeculum Timoris" in my opinion the best of their three songs.
You like well played black metal with atmosphere and energy, take a listen.

What's left to say?
The album has it's ups and down but at the end of the day
it's a very good split album.
